Ella Toone injured at crucial time for Manchester United
Manchester United star player Ella Toone should be back in action before the end of the season after suffering an injury blow.
The 26-year-old Manchester United midfielder and vice-captain is currently sidelined with a hip injury at a time when her club are fighting for honours on four fronts.
United boss Marc Skinner said last week: “She will be back before the end of the season, so you are probably looking around six to eight weeks (from now), something like that.
“We can’t rush her back, but I will say that she will be ready for football before the end of the season, for sure.”
In her absence, United, who play their home games at Leigh Sports Village, reached the League Cup Final with semi-final success over Arsenal last week.
And they remain in the hunt in Champions League and the FA Cup as well as the Women’s Super League, although they have some catching up to do on that score with Manchester City currently 11 points clear of them.
Toone has been starring and scoring for United since their women’s team’s rebirth in 2018.
Her national profile ramped up during England Lionesses victorious Euro 2022 campaign.
She spent seven years with the Reds’ youth teams before returning, via spells at Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City, in 2018.
The childhood United fan is the club’s all-time leading scorer.
She scored United women's 500th all-time goal and then became the first female player to reach 200 appearances for the club.
